How To Trim Your Wedding Expenses

By Kevin Keegan

For many couples, their wedding day is the most expensive occasion of their life. The question is then, how can you reduce wedding expenses without overly affecting the quality of the event?

Arranging your big day so to avoid getting married at the most popular time of year will significantly reduce your costs. Though you likely will not want to get married in the winter, the crossover periods at the start and end of summer can offer better value with minimal compromise on weather.

You will need to spend a fair amount of time paying visits to wedding vendors and online wedding shops so as to thoroughly compare the prices and value being offered. Ask about hidden costs and extras as the price you are quoted is rarely the price you pay on your bill.

Prices can be exceedingly expensive if you are going to have your reception in a luxurious hotel or a ballroom. These, however, should not be your only choices when the wedding reception hall is considered. Try to find somewhere at a golf club or country club as these tend to be cheaper alternatives.

Another way to cut wedding expenses by carefully considering the food for your wedding reception. In the most extreme case, you will be able to save yourself a tremendous amount of money if you are going to prepare the menu yourself. If this is not possible, you will still save a lot of money by either using an independent caterer or by limiting the range of food on your menu.

Lastly, ask friends to help out with your wedding arrangements in place of buying you a wedding gift. For example, they might be able to help with the catering, taking photos or chaffeuring the bride's or groom's car. Not only will this save you money, it additionally gives them a feeling of pride because they are contributing something personal that you will remember.
