Creating a Memorable Stag or Hen Party In A Recession

By Mariko Conisuellian

As we all know, we are in the middle of a huge economic downturn and lots of people are in debt with jobs that are by no means secure, and as a result, many couples are having to plan their weddings with a limited budget.

In the last ten years or so, stag weekends or even weeks have become commonplace, although in the last 6 months, people have started to go old-school in that respect. Due to the recession, people are obviously having to clamp down on their spending and so are having to shorten or cut out unessential luxuries all together.

Instead of weekends abroad, it is becoming increasingly popular to spend activity weekends in the UK. You can arrange multi activity days or weekends for far less than a foreign trip. Typically you can have a high quality days activities for 60 - 80 per person, which in many ways will be more memorable than a longer foreign break.

The big advantage of a stag party in the UK is that you will get a far higher take up rate as many people are put off by the high cost of foreign trips. Because of this you will have a more memorable day than might otherwise be the case. You can surround your self with 15 -20 or more of your friends and family rather than 4-6 for a week trip as is often the case.

Activities like karting, golf, indoor sky diving, indoor skiing, off road driving, quad bikes, archery and clay pigeon shooting are ideal for an eventful stag day / weekend. A good venue will organise all of the events for you, usually as well as a place to stay, removing a lot of pressure from the shoulders of the best man, while appearing as though he has put in an enormous amount of effort.

Having a wide range of activities is essential as the different people you invite may enjoy a wide range of different sports and events. Choosing off-road driving because it is a favourite hobby of the groom may deter some of the other guests who dont find it enjoyable. You should try to make your stag party activities as broad and inclusive as you can so as to try to include something everyone like at some point in the day.

If you make the day into a competition with some small prizes for winners and losers you will also make the day more memorable and enjoyable.
