Why Do People Have Counselling ?

By David Woodward

Most people have a need for help at certain stages of their lives. For example:

- Are you suffering from stress in the high pressure world of today ?

- Would you like somebody to help you cope emotionally with a crisis ?

- Do you feel that you have been abandoned, and a sense of loss ?

- Do you struggle to cope with anger and violence towards yourself or others ?

- Does anxiety and fear haunt you in your normal life, and hinder your aspirations and ambitions ?

- Is there some issue in your life that is just too complex to try and resolve on your own ?

- Have you been hurt by a breakdown of communications in a relationship ?

- Do you feel that you are in a downward cycle of depression that you are unable to break free of ?

- Do you want to find alternative ways of handling your behaviour, thoughts and emotions ?

- Would you like somebody to really listen to you, and try to understand who you are, where you are, and where you are coming from ?

Many of us could answer "Yes" to at least some of the above. There might even be other issues suggested by the examples above that could be discussed and resolved. Counselling can help to provide an objective, independant, non-judgemental environment where important personal matters can be discussed in confidence and in comfort.

Most experienced counsellors offer a free first consultation, which could give you the opportunity to judge whether counselling may be able to help you, at no cost or obligation on your part.

Give counselling a chance to help you with your issue(s). Find an experienced, qualified counsellor you feel you can trust, and arrange that initial consultation with them today.
