Finding Love

By Jayde Johanssen

Nearly everyone wants to find love, whether they will admit it or not. One of the scariest thoughts surrounding dating and finding love is how difficult it can be to find the "right" person out there in the big, wide world.

The amount of people that individuals meet everyday means that there is a higher chance that they will meet someone compatible, but that is not a guarantee due to the diversity of the world's population. For people who tend to keep to themselves, the prospect of finding someone that they click with perfectly is even more intimidating and difficult.

The traditional settings where people go to seek out romance are actually the furthest thing from romantic. Clubs and bars attract large groups of people dressed in their best, but the ususal blaring music and flow of alcohol does not exactly facilitate people getting to know one another on a very deep level. Many people do not even like stepping foot in these establishments, prefering the calm and quiet of their own home, making it that much harder to meet someone and try and work towards a real relationship.

Luckily, the internet has imerged as another option for people who are interested in checking out exactly what kind of fish are in the sea of dating. There are countless dating sites out there, offering their help to the romantically challenged individuals of the world.

There is an online dating company to suit almost anyone's needs, but people still need to maintain a critical eye to make sure they are getting what they are looking for. Some sites like eHarmony do all of the work for a person, not even allowing them to browse for themselves.

People must fill out an elaborate personality test in order to be matched up with someone who is compatible. This site even rejects individuals who they cannot find compatible partners for, which is something that speaks to its credibility but is also a bit frightening for individuals who already have a hard time meeting people who they click with.

Other sites give users more freedom over who they choose to date. Clients can browse through other people's profiles in search of individuals who peak their interest. They can communicate with those who interest them via e-mails and chatting through the site.

People who have a very specific idea of what exactly their mate should be like can visit sites that are specifically designed to meet their needs. There are sites that focus on a particular race, religion, financial well being, and numerous other distinct qualities that some people are looking for.

Many of the people who sign up for these online dating sites are looking for a meaningful relationship with someone they really connect with. While this is true, there are plenty of other people who see these sites as a means of pursuing numerous leads and dating without the intention of ever establishing a meaningful relationship.

This unfortunate truth just means people need to exercise caution.
