Finding a great wedding photographer in Surrey

By How to choose the best . . .

Your wedding day is probably the most important day of your life, and choosing a wedding photographer in Surrey is not easy as there are so many of them. When you consider that your wedding photos are the most important photos you will ever have taken for you then you may want to get some tips on choosing the right wedding photographer.

Just think how important your wedding album will be to you and your children, and their children. Best read our advice here to get some pointers.

First of all a good wedding photographer needs to be professional. The traffic in Surrey can be awful and it's important to have someone you can trust to be there on time. They also need to be able to use a camera and all of the equipment. I suppose these things go without saying though.

What is harder to get a feel for is the photographers eye for taking a picture - what do I mean by that? Well, you need someone who can skilfully master light and composition in your wedding photos. They need an eye for detail and need to be able to break down a visual scene into the right photographic elements. Someone with a bit of flair, panache and creativity rather than just pointing and clicking the camera to make sure they get all of the guests in.

So you need a photographer with flair, but that shouldn't intrude on the day. What does that mean? Well the photographer should not be ordering people around and making them pose when they are socialising. Everything should happen naturally at the right time. I often think that you shouldn't know the wedding photographer is there until the formal pictures need to be taken.

I try very hard for the bride and groom to offer them a service that truly delivers. I speak to all of them to find out what style they would like and manage their expectations around any issues I can see. I also go over the finer details and timings of the wedding day to ensure I can take the pictures they would like whatever the weather conditions.

Any good wedding photographer in Surrey will have a good backlog of pictures he can show you of actual weddings. They should be able to discuss with you how they worked with the couples in those photographs to reach the desired effect. Beware if the bride and groom seemed to have no input into their wedding album.

The best wedding photographers in Surrey should be happy to show you examples of real photos they have taken of real weddings. If they are new to wedding photography then they should have a VERY impressive portfolio of work, ideally of people.

You should always have a good look at the facial expressions of the people in the photos. Often, they give a clue as to how natural the photos are. If everyone seems happy, at ease and content then chances are the photographer has done a great job.

Six weeks after the wedding, my clients receive their album without the need to visit me or even choose images. With clients' busy lifestyles, people really appreciate this hassle-free approach.

Hopefully you will have some idea of what to look for when choosing wedding photographer in Surrey after reading this interview with Jay.
